Overview
Only an hours drive from Johannesburg and nestling on the banks of the Vaal River near Parys, Carryblaire River Retreat embodies peace, tranquility and a sense of oneness with nature. With its own natural island and being a bird sanctuary, the views offered at Carryblaire are breathtaking. The yellow-fish that leap through the water are considered to rival trout in their ability to entice fishermen in a challenge of wits, while the calls of the nesting Fish eagles remind us of their superiority in the air. Drink in the beauty and serenity around you, and let us and nature do the rest. Carryblaire River Retreat can accommodate up to 24 people in 10 double rooms. Accommodation options include dinner and breakfast or just breakfast. Meals consist of healthy and wholesome farm-style cooking, served in the dining room in the main lodge with stunning views overlooking the river. Our conference venue includes the use of all equipment, tea and coffee, snacks and lunch.

"Beautiful View and Hospitable Hosts"
24 Sep 2018
By Jonathan Crotz
"The lodge is in a beautiful location right next to the river with decent accommodation. Since the lodge is outside of Parys on a dirt road some planning is required as to food situation as there isnt a kitchen in the accomodation. If you want to braai either bring your own crockery and utensils or otherwise ask the hosts and they will gladly help you out (thanks Elize for helping us out). Some notes on the accomodation: Shower pressure and the showerhead wasnt the greatest. The bath was useful and had a handheld showerhead too. Again its decent accomodation for the price and a great location. They look like they are building and renovating new accomodation so will keen an eye out on this lodge."
"Great spot on the river but unclean room"

"Great spot with amazing views of the river. The room itself was really quite dirty and seemed to have been perhaps unused for quite some time; there was a constant damp smell in the room. There were also dirty marks on the white linen and bat excrement all over the bed."

"Excellent spot with great views of the vaal. B & B was good added option.Unfortunately our unit was on the ground floor connected to main house, we could here every single step or movement from the first floor which meant waking up on Sunday morning while it was still dark outside.. Specify for a stand alone unit when requesting for a quote. And take your own braai..."
"Beautiful, peaceful retreat"

"We loved our short stay at Carryblaire. It was just what we were looking for: a peaceful retreat away from the weekend bustle of nearby Parys. The room was neat and clean and comfortable and the grounds lovely and well-equipped for what our simple needs were. We opted-in for breakfast and it was simple but more than adequate, but made use of restaurants in Parys for dinner simple for the experience. We'll definitely be visiting again."
