If you love peaceful holidays and exquisite natural beauty, welcome to Baviaans Lodge

Nestled amongst wild olive, white stinkwood and yellowwood trees you will find the wilderness retreat of Baviaans Lodge. The lodge is situated in an indigenous tree-filled valley as it enters the Kouga mountains which form part of the Baviaanskloof and has been built from local natural stone in keeping with a traditional country lodge.

Enjoy a glass of wine from our country pub and listen to stories and folk tales of the wilderness area and kloof that makes a visit to the lodge so special. The warm hospitality and friendly staff of Baviaans Lodge will ensure every moment of your stay is unique and memorable. Enjoy superb country style meals freshly prepared and served from the farmhouse kitchen in the lodge dining room.

Natural stone cottages provide comfortable accommodation, each with a fireplace providing warmth in the winter months. A large fireplace in the main lodge, with yellowwood beamed ceilings and stunning natural stone and wood floors, is the perfect place for guests to relax in the evenings. Baviaans has no electricity or cell phone reception, so enjoy quiet evenings by candlelight and paraffin lamps. We also offer a stunning campsite, for the outdoor experience enthusiast. This is more suited for the summer months due to the cold winters we experience in the Kouga mountains.

Activities include walks and hikes, river rafting(must be booked well in advanced due to river conditions), 4x4 trail adventures, nature experiences, bass fishing, outdoor boma and camping, game trail experiences, bushmen art trails, and cultural experiences.

"Great hospitality. Comfortable beds, Enough hot water. Rob le Roux goes the extra mile to assist visitors. Unfortunately getting around the site on rocky terrain is not elderly friendly. Uneven floors and sloping little steps caused anxiety and a fear of falling . Suggestion: replace baths with showers and curtains to keep the floor dry.Provide handrails for those who have gammy legs.Log fires at night were an asset. No braai facilities at the cabin"

"We had a great time at Baviaans Lodge. Rob and his family treated us well. Thank you Dylan (Uber) and Robert for the tour to the bushman paintings, which are awesome to see. Well protected and preserved. Food was good, thank you for indulging our vegetarian."
"Rustic, relaxing with home cooked food"

"We loved the remoteness, log fires in the lodge and lovely long walks in the mountain to see the bushman paintings. Young Robert was our tour guide to the paintings, good job he did too. The food was good home cooked fair which we enjoyed, well done considering the remote location. The gas geyser in our chalet was not heating the water very well, so the showers were not the best. Other guests did not have the same problem."

"We enjoyed our night away at Baviaans Kloof. Our cottage was clean and comfortable with a great view of the surroundings. The roads there were challenging yet manageable in a normal sedan vehicle. Food was awesome and plentiful, Rob treated us extremely well. We felt safe and comfortable. Cant imagine its easy to run an establishment like this without the conveniences that the rest of us are used to so well done Rob, it was a memorable stay."

"New Year's disaster!"

"Wonderful surroundings but the lodge is not up to standard. We were placed 1 km from the main lodge in a converted farm cottage. We had to pass a scrap yard and ruins of buildings. There was no kettle for coffee in our place and the rooms had no locks or keys. On New Year's eve we had a burglary. It spoilt our trip and we will never return or recommend this place."

"The personal touch"

"Rob Le Roux, the owner, looked after us so well, as I have special needs. The Lodge is charming and rustic, and to be served, cooked for, and generally cared for by the owner himself was very special. Baviaans Lodge is for getting out of the rat-race, slowing down a few gears, and enjoying nature away from screens, phones and noise. Being a good walker is an advantage, with lots to explore of the unspoilt wilderness."
